COP26: Where does NI stand on climate change?
I read BBC news about NI environment issues. I learned a lot from its article. So I would like to write what I understood about this. First, COP26 is a major United Nations conference on climate change. The conference is being hosted in Glasgow from Sunday until 12 November. Glasgow is located in the southwest of Scotland. In March, Northern Ireland set the target of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2045. But the committee does not believe NI will achieve the target at the same time as the rest of UK. It is because Northern Ireland stands on shaky ground and its economic depends on agriculture. Agriculture is the biggest emitter accounting for 27 % of greenhouse gasses in NI.
